Who we are & what we do

Willington is a village within the district of South Derbyshire, with a population of 2600 and approximately 1100 dwellings. Further details can be read at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willington%2C_Derbyshire

The boundary of Willington Parish is contained in the West by the A38, the River Trent in the South, the boundary then runs along Frizams Lane in the East and extends along the Trent and Mersey Canal to then extend in the North to include Rumenco Farm adjacent to the Car Factory in Burnaston

The Parish Council:
Parish Councils are the first tier of local government and the closest to the community they serve. They are elected bodies with discretionary powers and rights to represent their communities and provide services for them. The number of councillors is fixed by the local District or Borough Council.

Willington is served by 11 parish councillors and 1 clerk. The Clerk is a paid officer of the council and it is the Clerk's responsibility to action decisions made by the Parish Council.

Our committees have specific tasks and can have delegated powers. Willington Parish Council currently has five committees:

  • Finance Committee
  • Recreation and Amenities Committee (RAC)
  • Footpaths Committee
  • Staffing Committee

There is also a Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group

As public authority, Willington Parish Council has registered with the ICO as a "Data Controller".
